We’re happily greeting the new years, liturgical and calendar, this Advent season. As we look forward to Christmas, we’ve unpacked our beautiful handmade Nativity sets of all sorts. From simple Holy Family groups to larger gatherings with shepherds, kings, and animals, it’s worth a visit to the Book Shop just to be amazed at the variety and craftsmanship they display. (Don’t miss the felt yurt – stable – from Kyrgyzstan, with all its inhabitants; or the elegant soapstone carvings from Kenya, including angels and tree ornaments too.)
One of the greatest works of Christian art in the last century is the St. John’s Bible, a multi-volume treasury, illuminated by hand according to ancient tradition, but very much embodying the historic fabric of our time and place. It’s worth a trip to Collegeville just to see for yourself the remarkable pages, now housed in a new and larger display in the St. John’s library. We offer not only the reproduction Bible volumes, but a wide selection of card collections featuring individual illustrations, many of which are wonderful Christmas images.
And for those of us who like to keep our appointments on paper and write them in by hand, don’t forget our 2018 calendars and daybooks, from pocket-sized to wall-mounted. We’ve got the Christian Pocket Diary, the Episcopal Liturgical Pocket Secretary, the Christian Planning Calendar, the Episcopal Liturgical Planning Calendar, the Liturgical Desk Calendar, the Revised Common Lectionary Calendar, the Episcopal and Ordo Wall Calendars, and the ever-popular Episcocats wall calendar – take your choice! And yes, it’s not too late to get an Advent calendar…come and see!
