Sacraments
Holy Baptism is normally celebrated during alternating 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. liturgies on the First Sunday after Epiphany, the Easter Vigil, Pentecost, and All Saints' Sunday. Please contact Mary Beth Helfrich in the Cathedral office to register for Baptism and the Hour of Instruction for parents and godparents. God established the bond and covenant of marriage in creation, and our Lord Jesus Christ adorned this manner of life by his presence and first miracle at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. It signifies to us the mystery of the union between Christ and his Church, and Holy Scripture commends it to be honored among all people. Through marriage a couple makes a solemn commitment to place God in the center of their new relationship. Holy Matrimony is a Sacramental Rite of the Episcopal Church, and like other Sacraments, it should not be entered into lightly or without serious preparation. The Columbarium consists of rooms whose walls are lined with individual burial niches, each with a marble face providing space for incised names and dates of the departed. There is also a Common unmarked grave in the center of each room of the Columbarium, where one's ashes may be mingled indistinguishably with the ashes of others and with the earth that lies beneath the Cathedral. A family niche, priced at $2,500, may hold as many as four containers. A religious service of prayers for the dead and comfort to the bereaved may be conveniently held in the nave above or in the All Saints' Chapel or in the Columbarium itself. Through arrangements with the Dean, a welcome may be extended to clergy of other denominations and faiths to read the form of their preference. Arrangements for services and burial should be made through the Cathedral Office at (612) 870-7800. For information about purchasing a place in the Columbarium, or to reserve a niche, contact the Cathedral Office. Baptism
Marriage
In a Christian wedding, the bridal couple invites their guests to join them in asking God's blessing on their marriage. It is intended to be a festive and joyous occasion and all present are asked to participate in the prayers, hymns, and thanksgiving to God.
Saint Mark's Cathedral is a beautiful and inspiring setting for a wedding. If you're interested in being married in the Cathedral, you may download our wedding guide booklet below. You may also call the Cathedral at (612) 870-7800 and ask for Mary Beth.
