Gathering Together

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Tuesday, February 21st, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Lent is coming up sooner than you think. Historically, pancakes were a great way to use up all those rich foods forbidden during Lent: eggs, milk, butter, and sugar! Join your Cathedral family in indulging in a pancake feast with glazed ham, breakfast potatoes, hot fudge sundaes, and more. Kids are invited to help transform palms to ashes for use in Ash Wednesday services.Cost: $4: 12 & over, $2: kids, free: 3 & under. Please help us to plan wisely and sign up in the Parlor by Monday, February 20th.

Wine & Wisdom Trivia Night

Mark your calendars for another round of fun and trivia. The 20s/30s group is working on this years event and will have details for us soon.

 

Episcopal Youth Music Festival

Saturday, March 3rd, 4:30 p.m.
St. Mark's Cathedral will reverberate with the celestial sounds of scores of youth singers at the Episcopal Youth Music Festival Service.  All are invited to attend this event in support of our future Episcopal musicians! More information can be found at www.episcopalyouthmusic.org.

We invite all who are new, or nearly new, to join us in the Chapter House room for a light lunch, and allow us to become better acquainted. Am informative tour of our building will be included.

 

A Day in the Desert: Finding a Bit of Moss Under the Stones

March 17th, 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Spend a half-day reflecting on the three Lenten disciplines — prayer, fasting, alms giving — and how we can discover God’s presence, even (or especially) in the deserts of our lives. Led by the Reverend Tim Hodapp, this half-day retreat will include a light lunch and closing Eucharist.

Jacob Cycle, or 'Much Ado About Everything!'

Sunday, Feb. 26th, 10:00 a.m. - Library
The cycle of stories about Jacob in Genesis is crucial for understanding the Hebrew Bible. In this narrative are nearly every manner of drama, melodrama, vaudeville, slapstick, promises, deceit, sibling rivalry, angels, death threats, dark nights of the soul, scoundrel - and these are just ones  in Jacob’s own clan! Saint Markan, Peter Sandstrom, M.Div., M. Th. will lead us through this lively and significant narrative.

 

Adult Forum - Mission trip to Cuba

Sunday, February 26th - Fontaine Auditorium
Veronica Guevara is co-chair for the St. Mark's Cuba Committee, which supports missions to Cuba to work on Sustainable Development projects and Friendship and Understanding dialogues.  She and other participants on the recent trip last fall will help other Saint Markans visit and learn about our dear sisters and brothers in Cuba.

 

Wednesdays in Lent: Mornings with coffee

Wednesdays, Feb. 29, March 7, 14, 21, and 29.
Join us in Lent for a Morning Eucharist, celebrated by the Reverend Bill Krews at 7:00 a.m. in Hewitt Chapel.  Eucharist will be followed by a discussion on the many meanings of Lent, at 7:30 a.m. in the Library.

 

Wednesdays in Lent: Noontime with Bag Lunch

Begin February 29th, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.
Bring a bag lunch and we will provide the conversation starters. Leaders include Reverend Bill Donovan, leading a topic such as “the intersection of religion and life” on February 29th, March 7th, and March 14th. Marilyn Halker will lead conversations on March 21st and 29th, using “Dwelling with Phillippians: a Conversation with Scripture through Image and Word.”

 

Adult Forum - Artists Portray the Crucifixion

Mar 4th, 10:00 a.m., Fontaine Auditorium
From Bruegel to Chagall, the crucifixion is presented from many perspectives. We will view several portrayals of the crucifixion and discuss how the current events from each artist’s time period influence his work. Professor Chris Franke teaches theology at St. Catherine University.

 

Adult Forum - Writing for Spiritual Growth

Mar 18th, 10:00 a.m., Fontaine Auditorium
Helen Hansen will discuss journaling, poetry, prose, and memoir as ways of exploring personal spirituality. We will discuss the forms of writing individuals use as for spiritual formation, with a special focus on journaling and memoir. There will be an opportunity to experiment with writing during the forum and to share ideas about how to approach writing as spiritual practice.
